Black Liquid Lace Chironomid

Hook: Size 12 Mustad C49S
Thread: UTC 70 Black
Body: Medium Clear Liquid Lace
Body Color:Black Pantone Pen
Wingcase: Golden Yellow Pheasant Tail
Thorax: Peacock Herl
Gills: White Ostrich Herl

Tie in a good base of black thread.

Tie in some medium clear liquid lace at the hook bend.

Colour the black thread with a black Pantone pen.

Wrap the medium clear liquid lace over the thread to form the body. Keep the liquid lace tight to start to keep the bottom thin.

Slowly ease off on the pressure to taper the body.

Tie in the golden yellow pheasant tail for the wingcase.

Tie in one white ostrich herl and wrap it twice to form the gills.

Tie in one peacock herl right behind the gills. Wrap 5-6 times to form the thorax.

Take the pheasant tail and pull it back over the gills and thorax to form the wingcase.

Whip finish behind the thorax and the fly is ready.

This is how the fly looks in the water!

Your black liquid lace chironomid post has not mention of the fact that the tapering of the body and the overall effect is significantly enhanced by filling the tube with mineral oil before tying the fly as per the URL http://www.liquidlace.com
coloring the hook only then is required and you do not need to run the black thread all the way to the end of the bend. Just tie the liquid lace in at the point near the eye and wrap it down stretching it thinly as you approach your end point in the bend and maintaining your tension wrap it back up the hook shank relaxing the tension as the bend is passed. Filling the tube with mineral oil allows the tension and stretching needed to give it this utility and it is a very fast tie with a rotary vice.
