CDC (Olive) Comparadun

Hook: Size 18 TMC 100 Dry Fly
Thread: 8/0 Olive
Wing: Short/Fine Deer or Elk Hair
Tail: Moose Mane Tips
Body: Olive CDC Fibers
Head: Olive CDC Fibers

Start by tying a good base layer of thread onto the hook.

Stack some short/fine deer or elk hair. Take the hair and tie in a wing that is as long as the hook. Give yourself some room at the head of the fly for dubbing in a small head.

To make the wing stand upright, take about 1/3 of the wing, pull it back and tie 2 wraps of thread around the hair.

Take another 1/3 of the hair and tie 2 wraps of thread around it.

Finally, take the last piece of hair and tie a few wraps in front of it. This method will force the wing to stand upright.

Take about 4-5 moose mane tips and tie in as the tail. You want the tail to be as long as the hook.

Cut some CDC fibers into a dish and then dub the CDC onto your thread and wrap a nice thin body. Once you hit the wing, pull the wing back and dub a small head onto the fly.

Whip finish, tie off and the fly is ready for the water.

Remember: DO NOT use any wet floatant on CDC (like Gink) or you will ruin the fly. Only use DRY silica powder floatants.
