English Booby

Hook: Mustad R72 Size 8
Thread: 8/0 Olive
Eyes: Round Foam Balls
Eye Holder: Nylon Material
Body: Dubbed Olive Marabou
Rib: Medium Copper Wire
Tail: Olive Marabou

Tie some olive marabou in for the tail. It should be the length of the hook.

Tie in some medium copper wire, which will be used to rib the fly later.

Dub some marabou onto the thread.

Wrap dubbing forward to form the body. Leave some room at the eyelet for the foam eyes.

Wrap the wire forward to form 4 to 5 ribs on the fly.

Wrap foam balls in nylon mesh and then tie into hook near eyelet.

Figure 8 thread around eyes until they are sitting evenly on both sides of the hook.

Dub more marabou onto the thread near the eyelet.

Wrap the marabou around and in-between eyes to finish off the head.

This fly is an EXCEPTIONAL pattern when fished with a full sink line on shallow marl flats.

Hi Don, Do you have any video's fishing the booby?

I like to fish them on the point with another lure behind on a dropper. I tend to fish them on a full sinking line so that the booby is right on the bottom but it's buoyancy keeps it off a bit. Very successful on rainbows esp in winter when I usually fish a red setter on the dropper.

Don... I used the Booby for the first time at "Hog Heaven" last week........... OMG. Needless to say I had to try it at "secret lake" by HWY3 ............ Again......... OMG I landed (and released) two RT 23"s. I havent even thought about that fly since we were at White tail with your bro Dale. Now that was a while ago... LOL. thanx for refreshing my memory on fly selection. Cob webs are a dangerous thing!

Cheers Les
