Flying Black Ant

Tie in a good base of thread. |

Take a small clump of black deer hair and tie it in at the back of the hook. |

Pull hair forward and wrap with thread to form the first segment of the ant. |

Move thread forward 1/8", pull the deer hair forward and form the 2nd segment of the ant. |

Cut off the deer hair and wrap over the excess. |

Tie in 2 brown hackle tips so the tips are pointing forward. |

Cut off excess hackle, push the wings back and tie over with the thread to form the wings. Tying in this way will keep the wings flared out to the sides. |

Tie in a black hackle and wrap in to form the legs. |

Tie in 2 peacock herls, and wrap forward to form the head of the fly. |

Whip finish and the fly is ready!!! |

Remember: This fly is not very durable, a lot of times it is 1 fish per fly, so tie lots!!! |
