Nice looking fly, and fairly simple to follow for those new to fly tying like myself. I've been experimenting with using the tape from old music cassettes for the body. The cassette tape gives the fly's body a nice glossy look. Have you guys used cassette tape as a tying material before, if so any thoughts?
I'm not sure if they have used cassette tape, but I know that Don has tied a fly using pieces from anti-static bags you get with hard drives for computers.
Hi Scott,
Kale is correct...we have used anti-static bags to tie our chironomids with and they are very effective. I have never used cassette tape before and thanks for the tip...we may have a new fly for the bench this season. I have enough old "KISS/Led Zepplin" cassette tapes to use! :)
Thanks for watching.
Bummer, Don. I could've used those Led Zep tapes except I don't think they'll play in my 8-Track, will they?
Actually there is a pattern called The Pornomid which incorporated VHS tape, a black bead and a drop of white lacquer on either side of the bead. It was "all the rage" a couple years ago.
Great little fly. I have allot luck with Chironomid's here in the Midwest, mainly panfish, but they work great. What size hook did you tie this on ?
Mike
Hi Mike,
I tied this fly on a 2X long nymph hook. Any hook with a slight bend works well and I have found that the 'Klinkhammer' shaped hooks are ideal.
Thanks for tuning in :)
