Julia

Hook: Size 12 Scud/Pupae Hook
Thread: 8/0 Orange
Tail: Long Mallard Flank
Body: Frostbite Floss
Thorax: Bright Green Dubbing
Hackle: Partridge Feather

Tie in a long piece (3X hook length) of Mallard Flank for the tail.

Tie in some Frostbite Floss and wrap forward to form the body.

Dub in a small, bright green thorax onto the fly.

Tie in a partridge feather near the eyelet.

Wrap feather about 2 to 3 times to form the fly hackle.

Pull hackle back and, using your thread, form a full, tapered orange head on the fly.

Whip finish, head cement and the fly is ready for your local streams.

The person being interviewed here made several incorrect references regarding the use of the Julia fly on BC rivers, saying to use it as a dropper under a dry fly. That is not legal in BC. Most other areas allow it and it would be a good one to try. I just thought perhaps some mention of this might be appropriate here.

Thanks for your comments and the SFOTF staff will ALWAYS abide to the regulations set forth in every province/state or country we fish.

The Julia is a very good dropper pattern in regions where two or more flies are allowed.
