Mayfly Cripple

Hook: TMC 100 Size 18-20
Thread: UTC 70 Olive
Tail: Light Dun Hackle Fibers
Body: Light Yellow Dubbing
Wing: Light Dun CDC Puffs
Hackle: Light Dun Neck Hackle

Put the hook in the vice and bend the hook towards you, to a 45 degree angle, about ½ way up the hook.

Take 8 hackle fibers and tie in as the tail.

Dub some light yellow dubbing onto your thread.

Wrap the dubbing forward to form a thin, tapered body.

Tie in a hackle. This will be used to hackle the fly later.

Take a CDC puff and tie in for the wing. Make sure the wing is NOT upright but flat (Parallel with the water).

Wrap hackle once behind the wing and then the rest in front of the wing.

Whip finish and the fly is ready for selective trout.

Important Note: DO NOT use wet floatant on the CDC. ONLY use a dry floatant or you will gum up the CDC and ruin the fly.
