North Fork Damsel (Special)

Hook: Size 12 Scud/Pupae Hook
Thread: 8/0 Black
Bead: 1/8 Silver or Gold
Body: DazzleLink Dubbing
Rib: Copper Wire
Tail/Legs: Grey Goose Biots
Wing Slips: Black Goose Biots

Slide bead onto hook and tie in thread.

Tie in two grey goose biots and separate to form the tail.

Tie in copper wire, which will be used to rib the body later.

Dub some Dazzle Link onto your thread and wrap forward to form a small, tapered body.

Wind wire forward to create 5 to 6 ribs on the fly.

Create 3 wing segments using Black Goose Biots.

Tie in 2 more Grey Goose Biots, out each side of the fly, to form the legs.

Dub in some more Dazzle Link to form the head of the fly.

Whip finish and the fly is ready for your favorite nymphing holes.

So movement is the theory behind the success of nymphs with biot "legs." I've seen a surge in the popularity of these nymphs recently, which I always found confusing since they sure don't look like real legs. Very interesting.
