Tiny Green Chironomid

Hook: Size 18 TMC 2487
Thread: UTC 70 Olive
Bead: 3/32 Gold Bead
Gills: White Antron
Body: UTC 70 Olive Thread
Rib: Fine Copper Wire
Thorax: Peacock Herl

Slide bead onto hook and then wrap a base of thread onto the hook.

Tie in the White Antron at the head of the fly.

Cut off the excess Antron sticking out the back. Trim the front part later.

Slide the bead forward and make a few wraps right behind it to hold it in place, then move the thread to the bend in the hook.

Tie in the fine copper wire and hang off the back so you can tie in a rib later.

Build a tapered body with the thread, keeping it thin at the back and bigger near the bead.

Wrap the gold wire forward starting with 3 turns at the bend of the hook, then make 4-5 wraps towards the bead.

Tie in one peacock herl and make 1-2 wraps to form the thorax.

Whip finish behind the bead.

Trim the Antron back to ~1/8" to form the gills.

And that's it, the fly is done!

Hey Don, great job with your show and this site. Youve got my dream job man. Was just wondering where you get them beads, they are kinda beer can shaped as opposed to my round cyclop beads. thanks, ed
