Don ,you speak highly of the Mauii Jim sunglasses.
I am curious to know the details of this product.

Would like your oppinion on where and when to fish
the Columbia River? The flotation of choice is an
8' potoon boat.

Thank you for taking the time to read.

Loyal viewer of your site & show.

Hi Terry,

I have had Maui Jim sunglasses for the past three years and they are CRITICAL for fishing. You can easily see fish cruising in shallow water and it makes it much easier to walk & wade rivers. They have a website and you just have to query Maui Jim sunglasses.

The Columbia fishes great from mid March to early November with the best times being April for fewer Big fish, July for great dry fly, or October for late season HOGS. An 8' pontoon boat will be fine but please remember to always wear a life vest, since the water in July can be BIG!

Thanks for watching.

Don,

I am a new fly tyer and recently watched the episode that featured the "carpet caddis" on the bench. I was unable to write down the recipe and am unable to find it on the web site. Could you tell me were to find it and do you tie it in any other colors other than the olive and brown?

Great show.

Thanks
Darrel

Hi Darrel,

Below is the list of ingredients for the Brown Carpet Caddis.

Brown Carpet Caddis
Hook: Size #14 2x Fine Dry
Thread: 8/0 Olive Dun
Tail: Olive/Brown Z-Lon
Body: Olive/Brown Antron Dubbing
Wing: Olive/Brown Z-Lon
Hackle: Small Brown Hackle

The most important trick to this fly is making sure the front hackle is VERY SMALL. Only two hackle turns and make sure the barbs are halk as long as the hook gap. I have trying this fly in a multitude of colors and, like all patterns, match the color to the insects in your area.

Thanks for watching.
