Quick Tip 03

On this Quick Tip, Brian Chan demonstrates how to tie a non-slip loop knot. This knot allows your flies to pivot, especially useful when chironomid fishing - either hanging under an indicator, or on a wet line when your stripping them, providing a lot more action to the fly.

Hey Don,

When I watched this tip I couldn't help but notice the lake you guys were on. Is there a Summit Lake episode coming or is it an older episode that I missed? That train in the background taught me how to roll cast when I was a kid!

Hi Brad,

Yes, you are correct...it is Summit Lake and we had a fantastic time while we were there. We filmed a few shows while fishing the lake and they are all going to be fun and educational. Just to give you a sneak preview; we show a new fishing and tying technique called the 'Balance Leech'...it was killer.

Thanks for watching and hope you enjoy the new series.

Hi Don

I like the way this knot lets the fly hang. I've never used a loop knot just because it seems to be larger and more visible than traditional knots, do you find that it's too visible to fish, particularly in clear water?

Thanks
Brian

Hi Brian,

I use this knot for most of my fishing, with the exception of when I am tying on dry flies. This knot allows the fly to move naturally and I always use fluorocarbon tippet material, so the fish can't see it as well. We have caught plenty of fish using this knot in clear water lakes, so I really don't think it is too visible.

Thanks for watching.

This knot is stronger than most traditional knots and it really does increase your catch rate. It should be your first knot of choice when fishing anything below an indicator.

Thanks for the vid of the non slip knot easy to follow on video compared to a drawing.

Thanks
