Quick Tip 04

On this Quick Tip, Brian Chan talks about the importance of having a fish finder when fishing lakes, especially for finding the depth. Don shows a less accurate but more affordable way to achieve the same results, using a pair of forceps.

I have this crazy idea! Thermoclines are critical in figuring out where target fish are holding. I have only seen thermometers that have the little tube and string...what century are we in? What stops me from using a digital thermometer with a remote sensor (wired would be better than wireless from the reviews I've read) and just adding a longer wire. It should work, right? It doesn't find fish like a fish finder, but it's a clue in the puzzle (especially if I don't have a fish finder). If nothing else, it makes a cheap fish finder better.
The only problem I could think of would be the increased resistance of a longer wire causing errant readings.
